History records the existence of 85 temples, of which only 25, strewn amidst lakes and fields, have survived.

The erotic temples of Khajuraho are one of India's major attractions. They are superb examples of Indo - Aryan architecture and the sculptures around the temples depict various aspects of Indian life over 1000 years ago - gods, goddesses, warriors, musicians, real and mythological animals and above all women and sex. Khajuraho's temples date from 950 - 1050 AD and were built by later Chandela Kings.
